Conditions We Treat

Bloom Physical Therapy specializes in treating vestibular disorders, neurological disorders, as well as older adults.  We understand that people living with vestibular and neurological disorders often meet with multiple health care providers and undergo extensive testing before receiving a diagnosis. Our goal is to ease this process and provide evidenced based, collaborative, and patient centered care either in-clinic or in the convenience of your own home.

Vestibular Disorders

Vestibular disorders often lead to symptoms of vertigo, dizziness, or imbalance.

Common vestibular disorders that we treat include but are not limited to: BPPV (benign paroxysmal positional vertigo), vestibular neuritis or labyrinthitis, vestibular migraine, PPPD (persistent postural perceptual dizziness), and central dizziness after brain injury.

Parkinson’s Disease

Parkinson's Disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disease. However, exercise is medicine, and can help you regain function.

Balance & Fall Prevention

Your balance may be affected by a number of vestibular, neurological, or orthopedic issues. No matter the cause, we can help you improve your balance and reduce your risk for falls.

Functional Neurological Disorder

FND describes neurological symptoms like limb weakness, tremor, numbness, or dizziness (among others) caused by a problem with the functioning of the nervous system. FND is like a software issue of the brain and nervous system, which means that there is hope for recovery.

Older Adults

Whether you’ve recently been hospitalized, had a joint replacement, are managing chronic health conditions, or want to improve your balance - physical therapy can help you regain strength and improve function.

Neurological Disorders

We work with highly motivated individuals with neurological disorders (such as stroke (CVA), concussion, dystonia, Multiple Sclerosis) to reach their goals and maximize their independence.

Infrared video goggles are an integral part of assessment and treatment of vestibular disorders. These goggles block out light and utilize infrared cameras to much better visualize even subtle eye movements and reflexes that provide information about the function of your vestibular system.

Only about 1/3 of eye movement due to vestibular issues are visible in room light. Infrared Video Goggles can reveal critical eye movements that would otherwise be missed.

These are available both in-clinic and during in-home visits.

The rehab arch allows you to safely work on balance, mobility, and functional exercises without the risk of falling. Not only can it act as a safety catch for falls, but it can actually provide unloading when needed. If you experience lower extremity weakness that makes standing and walking difficult, the rehab arch can provide extra support while you work to regain your strength. The rehab arch eliminates the fear and risk of falling, so that you can focus solely on improving your balance and function. This is great for older adults, those with balance issues, or those with neurological disorders.

Rehab Arch

Bloom Physical Therapy offers a comfortable and sturdy treatment table that not only moves up and down but can tilt in space. This is especially beneficial for those with BPPV who also experience neck or back pain or mobility issues. You no longer need to put your neck in painful or uncomfortable positions in order to perform BPPV treatments (such as the Epley maneuver). The entire table will tilt so that you don’t need to extend your neck.

If you’re having trouble performing BPPV maneuvers (such as the Epley maneuver) due to neck pain or stiffness, a tilt table will allow you to correctly complete the maneuvers and relieve your vertigo symptoms.

Treatment Pathway

  • Initial Evaluation

The first step is an initial evaluation. During the initial evaluation, your therapist will review your medical history and symptoms, perform assessments to get a better understanding of where you’re at, and discuss your goals for physical therapy. Your therapist will then work with you to develop a plan of care.

  • Treatment Program

A treatment session is any session that occurs after the initial evaluation. Treatment programs vary based on the individual. We work together to develop a treatment program that will help you feel empowered and reach your goals. We will perform reassessments throughout your course of care to determine how you are progressing and make changes to your plan of care as needed.
